History

In 2013, I began to develop ideas about starting a school in Stockholm that would combine elements of both a Swedish and an American acting studio – a preparatory education that would guide actors on their journey, teaching them to “stand on their own two feet” whether they chose to continue studying at a university level or enter the job market directly – something many of our graduates go on to do.

I felt there was a need for a private school in Stockholm where decisions are made with equal parts artistic dedication and sound business sense – where teachers are given the opportunity to influence the curriculum and follow the students’ development from beginning to end. We wanted to take the best from the Swedish model and the American/international schools and methods, with which all our staff are experienced, to offer a progressive education!

We established the school in the heart of Stockholm, in Gamla Stan, where Ingmar Bergman worked for many years. Mäster Olofsgården in Gamla Stan became the home of Actors Studio Stockholm, and the studio became a reality. Our educational philosophy is based on our experience; that systematic, repeated training of an objective acting method is the foundation for a personally adaptable and reliable individual technique. To achieve this, we use thoughtful, proven, and holistic methods from Stanislavsky, Michael Chekhov, Strasberg, Meisner, Hagen, among others.

Our daily training takes place in a physically and psychologically safe environment, where acting students are encouraged to challenge themselves and take risks in their work so they can grow as individuals. By giving our students the unique opportunity to study and work in both Swedish and English, with texts from around the world, they gain the chance to explore different cultural perspectives while preparing for the international job market. Since each of us works differently based on our unique starting points, we cater to the individual needs of each student. We are 100% dedicated to helping our students reach their ultimate potential and become the best artists they can be.

Everyone who applies to Actors Studio Stockholm must be highly motivated and understand the demands placed on a professional actor.
